| About this Project | ||
Project Description Our Project is to Save Parkwood Farms Therapy Center so it can continue operating at the current location. Your contributions will help us cover our operating costs, including an outstanding debt stemming from back lease and salary that we have not had adequate funds to pay in full. Project Needs Parkwood Farms Therapy Center, Inc. is a multi-discipline therapy center located in Snellville, Georgia. We offer non-traditional therapies both in a clinical setting and Therapeutic riding and Equine Assisted Activities, as our signature program. Parkwood Farms is the training facility for the Special Olympics Equestrian team and Dr. Peterson is the Special Olympics Equestrian coach for Gwinnett County.
We also have Chiropractic services, Bio-Medical/Defeat Autism Now! Intervention, Bio-Cleanse, Far Infrared Sauna, mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT), and Nutritional counselling available on-site. Our programs provide therapies for children with special needs including autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, emotional-behavioural problems and learning disabilities. Our riders start at age 2 and there is no age limit. Support Us... We appreciate donations of all types. Our volunteers donate their time, but we also have a need for funds and equipment. Unused or outgrown tack, materials for our current projects, and other supplies are always on our wish list! We welcome your financial support! and ALL DONATIONS TO THIS PROJECT WILL BE USED TO HELP US STAY IN OUR CURRENT LOCATION. Your financial support is also needed to help us with ongoing expenses such as feed, farrier services (horseshoeing), veterinarian services and other supplies. In addition, we have a scholarship program for children whose families are unable to afford the monthly stable fees. It is our goal to provide a top quality facility where we will never turn anyone away due to inability to afford the fees. Project Manager Project Schedule![]() Dr. Marilyn Peterson was born in upstate New York and moved to Atlanta in 1986. In 2002, Dr. Peterson founded Parkwood Farms Therapy Center. She is the mother of 6, the youngest son having Autism. She enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. This project will be completed as soon as we become current with our lease. Our goal is to raise $75,000.00 within the next 90 days. Project Beneficiaries The children, their parents and the community all benefit from Parkwood Farms Therapy Center. Testimonials: “Parkwood Farms has offered my son a place to have fun. While Christopher thinks he is just riding horses, attending summer camp and playing in the ball pit I see him learning how to interact with other kids and animals. I see him strengthening his communication skills and his leg muscles. In just over 3 years he has gone from being angry and aggressive to being happy and assertive.” - Jill "I’ve seen a tremendous response from Hunter since we began the horse-based therapies, but the value of Parkwood goes far beyond the actual therapies. It has become a place to belong both for Hunter and our entire family. Not unlike the youth athletic associations in which our typical son participates, at Parkwood we find ourselves bonding with the other clients, their families, and the generous volunteers.” - Andrea “One of the things that I love about my son participating in the horse riding program is my respect for his horsemanship skills. He works hard on those horses, but manages to make it look easy. I have always been proud of my son, and now I have increasing respect for him too!” - Anna |
